Well, at last night’s splashy Online News Association in New York, they may have given more stage time to producers of The Daily Show, leadership at La Nacion in Venezuela and the Reuters team who fearlessly covered the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. That included enthusiastic hosting by Vitus Spehar of Under the Desk News.
Still, let it be known that last night, Danya Henninger and I were plenty proud that Technical.ly was honored in such company for excellence in technology reporting. It was a genuine honor to stand next to the impressive WIRED team, including Vittoria Elliott and Andy Greenberg. Congratulations also to Nilay Patel and The Verge team, which was up for several honors (I meant to say a proper thank you for the inspiring work for us locally.)
This work is hard as hell for everyone, it’s just differently tricky at the local level that we do at Technical.ly. Wading through the vitriol to get a truer understanding of the data center battles in places as far flung as suburban Delaware and rural Louisiana, small-town Pennsylvania and big-city Baltimore has been a particular high-water mark.
But overall our team’s coverage of toxic startups, underperforming policy and proper national benchmarking elevates the conversation in the local communities we serve. (Newly including North Dakota, and a new state to share very soon!)
We’ve done this for 18 years, and our purpose, depth and reach has never been clearer. Thanks for the recognition ONA, and congratulations to all the remarkable honorees, nominees and winners. (Much congrats Erin McGregor, PMPĀ® !)
s/o also to the standout work by new friends at The Conversation U.S., Bryan Keogh and @Matt Williams. Truly honored to even just be in the room. #OJA26
